Today marks the last day for our U14’s manager Ricky as he steps down from the club and hands the ball over to Joel. And to finish on a win was a fantastic send off!

Having joined the club five years ago when his son signed up to play, little did he realise that soon after he would adopt the management of the team (by choice of course) after the current manager stepped down and then eventually the minis section of the club as well.

When Ricky took over, the team was small in numbers having that they lost some players during COVID. Coming out of the other side, there were only seven players and recruitment was tough.  While the core seven continued to train and play matches, it was clear that some were losing hope and were beginning to lose interest and were on the verge of leaving because they did not want to play the game borrowing players from the opposition.  Ricky made a promise to the parents and the players, that he would hit the senior schools when the boys move to Year 7 and recruit.  And that promise he stuck to.  Ricky and the teams head coach Barry visited the senior schools in Stevenage, specifically year seven and flew the flag for the club.  This gained some new players, and with the help of existing players who introduced their friends to the sport, more new faces turned up to play!  The team have grown from strength to strength and now have twenty-three players on the team.  As always at the turn of the season we always loose the odd two or three, but overall, the team are striving.

Ricky took hold of the social media pages and has done a fantastic job in creating content and getting it out there to attract players for the club for all the age grades.  The social pages have grown and attracted people from all over the county.  Ricky and his wife, Adrienne, arranged several events over the years to attract visitors to the club, and also arranged club social events.  They have both been a positive life force within the club over the years, and we thank them for all they have done wishing the best of luck for the future.
